Principal Platform Engineer

Own and advance the architecture that makes Indwel dependable as an operating institution: governed inference, evidence custody, identity and tenancy, application contracts, observability, security, deployment and durable state.

This is not a role for optimising one service in isolation. It is for an engineer capable of finding the true authority boundaries of a consequential system and improving them without dissolving the governing architecture.

• Shape platform architecture across services, applications, data and model-provider boundaries
• Improve reliability, observability, deployment safety and incident readiness
• Strengthen identity, tenancy, evidence custody and authority controls
• Define interfaces that allow product teams to move quickly without bypassing governance
• Turn architectural decisions into durable code, tests, operational proof and clear documentation
• Provide senior technical judgement across difficult migrations and production failures

The platform becomes faster to change and harder to misuse. Failures become legible. Authority boundaries become easier to reason about. Product teams inherit better defaults. The system retains evidence of what happened and why.

• Deep experience building and operating consequential production systems
• Strong judgement across distributed systems, cloud infrastructure and application architecture
• Evidence of reliability, migration, security or incident leadership
• The ability to write architecture clearly and make difficult trade-offs explicit
• Comfort working across implementation, operations, product and institutional requirements

Experience with AWS, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, search or retrieval systems, identity, policy systems, and model infrastructure is valuable. Exact tool overlap matters less than demonstrated systems judgement.

This is intended as a senior individual-contributor appointment with substantial technical authority. Location, compensation, schedule and employment terms will be discussed directly with qualified candidates and calibrated to the scope of the role and the candidate’s experience.

Application review is followed by a working conversation with the people responsible for the platform. A bounded technical examination may follow where it would provide useful evidence; substantial exercises are compensated.
